Cake artist Amy Yip, founder of Yip Studio known for “bespoke rock-shaped ‘carved’ and ‘mossy’ cakes and Asian-inspired flavors,” took to social media recently to accuse youngest Kardashian-Jenner and billionaire Kylie Jenner of stealing one of her designs.

In the posts, some of which were removed after Jenner reached out to her, Yip lays out all of the evidence supporting her claim that Jenner, after inquiring about hiring Yip to create a cake for an upcoming perfume launch, ripped off her designs. The evidence included an email informing Yip that Jenner didn’t have the budget to hire her as well as several photos of the cake Jenner did end up going with, which Yip felt was incredibly similar to her own work, and screenshots of a deck Yip put together for Jenner showing examples of her previous work as well as a moodboard for the potential cake she would make for Jenner.

In a follow-up post, Yip revealed that Jenner had reached out, prompting her to delete some of the posts, adding that “enough people have seen it” and “I don’t feel bad anymore.” She also wrote that she felt “ashamed at how naively I invested my time,” and she’s since learned her lesson: no more free pitches.

Commenters were outraged on Yip’s behalf, although not entirely surprised given billionaires are gonna billionaire. One commenter imparted some free wisdom for any small business owners reading the thread, writing, “Tbh I hope what people take from this is that if you’re a small business owner, you cannot expect big companies to treat you special because to them you’re just another small business to take from. Fees, consultations, all that, cover your bases to make sure you’re not just offering all your work for FREE.

“A lot of these celebrities/personalities live beyond their means, use exposure as a way of payment, and are straight-up frugal, Kardashians included. This is the same family who says they’ll take a sponsorship in order to pay off their lavish spending, they truly could not gaf about anyone or what they condone through their sponsors.”

Jenner hasn’t publicly responded, because Kris Jenner knows better than that. She has seemingly deleted the photos of the contentious cake from her Instagram, however.
